Exceptional Care - by Design
Most meet and greets start with: “I used to have a great PCP. Now I’m in a new practice and I hardly ever see my doctor but once a year.”
Did you know that’s by design?
Today’s health system-owned primary care practice is designed to assign ~3,000 patients to each doctor. If you do the math, it’s just barely possible for that doctor to see each patient but once a year. Short visits and rushed doctors and fragmented care across covering members of a practice leads to more referrals, more testing…and sadly, more ED visits and hospitalizations. Why would anyone design a primary care practice that way? Well that design increases revenue for healthcare systems. That design is bad for patients, and frustrating for doctors, too.
As a physician and healthcare delivery system expert, the evidence shows and I personally know that the most important asset you can secure in the healthcare system is a personal physician who knows you and advises you in your care over time. That’s what I’m offering in my practice.
Concierge Practices vs. Amy Boutwell MD
Concierge practices in the Boston area are not all the same. There are a handful of concierge practices in greater Boston with a range of terms and services. You have choices.
An example of a typical concierge practice in Boston is the MGH Concierge Practice. It operates with an annual membership fee of $10,000 which does not include medical care rendered; they also bill insurance for each visit. This practice has a sizable wait list.
My practice operates with an annual retainer of $6,000. A retainer is a payment to secure a dedicated amount of time for your care. My goal is that you know - and truly feel - that I am never too busy for you.
